Thank you to everyone who has called, texted, or e-mailed me, asking about the Metro train collision.  I was NOT on either of the affected trains.  I was on the Red Line around lunchtime today, running an errand, but I was not on the train at 5 pm near Fort Totten.

Weird...this is not the first train disaster I've missed by some stroke of divine intervention.  Does anyone remember the shooter on the Long Island Railroad in the mid '90s?  Had I not been selected to go overseas earlier that year, I would have been on that train (5:33 to Hicksville).

I sincerely appreciate all the words of concern and support.  *hugs*

I know, I'm wildly behind in reporting on my oh-so-boring-to-the-outside-world life.  I've been busy, you know!!

I simply couldn't pass up the opportunity to share this find.  Some of you will be confused, but for those of you who aren't:

And so, to all of you who said that my moniker had nothing to do with the video game industry, I say, ha!

More later.  Possibly.

Aug. 12th, 2008 11:59 am Missed it by THAT much...

So, I've been on call for jury duty these past two weeks.  Last night was the final time I had to check the website to see if I would be called at all.

My group number:  221.
Group numbers called last night:  204-220.

Whew!  Off the hook for another cycle.

Current Location: At work, not at the courthouse

Jan. 25th, 2008 11:34 am A triscuit?!?!?

I've been back to the gym ( 3 times this week, yay me!), so I thought I was back on track.  I had to go to the doctor today, where they always weigh you as their first form of torture.  How could I have gone UP 2 pounds?  *beats head against wall*  Okay, okay, I haven't been terribly disciplined about my eating, but it's not like I'm sitting in front of the tv binging on cookies.  This reminds me of the comedy routine where a female commedienne is talking about her dream, exercise bikes that automatically tell you what you can eat based on the number of calories you've burned (see subject line).

*Heads off to CVS to pick up her bronchitis meds so that she can get some SLEEP, gosh darn it*

Oct. 21st, 2007 07:35 pm MIL update

Thanks for the well wishes regarding my mother-in-law.  Turns out that she did not have a stroke.  Whew!  She had a very severe middle ear infection that caused all kinds of things to go haywire.  I'm still not clear on how they settled on "stroke" as the cause, but that's neither here nor there.  DH (Dear Husband) is up in NY with her for a few days.

Bad mother.  I am a bad mother.  Fire me now.  Please?

Yesterday, DD asked to go to the pool.  A simple request, right?  Not so much.  Yesterday, we (1) went to ballet, (2) followed it up with tap, (3) got the car washed (and natch, it is raining like the dickens today), (4) grocery shopped, (5) sat out in the hot sun for almost 3 hours at DS's baseball game, and (6) went to a cookout after aforementioned game, where Daddy got recruited to do all the grilling.  This doesn't count the stuff that dh did, like piano lessons and er...stuff.  Did I mention that it was almost 90 degrees?  And that was not near the grill?  As I crawled in the door of my house--which looked like Dorothy and Toto would have been right at home, thank you very much--DD announced that she was ready to go to the pool now.

"I don't think so.  I need to rest, and my eyes are absolutely killing me."  I wanted to claw the contacts out of my beet red eyes.

"But MOMMY!  It's hot!"

I looked at her as if she had grown another head.  "Really?"  Sarcasm flows naturally from my New York lips.  "I hadn't noticed."

Big pout.  "I'm all ready!"

Even DS looked at her wearily.  "No, dear,"  I said, "Mommy needs to be in air conditioning for a bit, and take her contacts out."

I won't go into the remainder of the conversation, except to say that it included slamming doors.  Needless to say, we didn't get to the pool.  And today, it is raining.

(raises hand)  Bad parent, right here.

May. 28th, 2007 08:59 pm Getting started...

...is typically the hardest part.  I really opened an account here so that I could post positive comments on other people's journals, but I figured I'd better put something in my own Journal section.  So here I am.

This past weekend, my dear daughter (DD) celebrated her First Holy Communion.  Scheduling this event was a nightmare, but that's a topic for another post.  Mother and Mother-in-law made the journey from New York, as well as Mother's fiance.  We all survived...somehow.  DD looked radiant in her dress and veil, and due to her height, she was first in line.  Sweet.  Dear husband (DH) was a crank most of the weekend, but I just didn't have the time or the patience to deal with him constructively.  I think my expectations for his behavior are too high.

Going to make sure the cats I've herded tonight are in bed.  School tomorrow, you know.  Joy.
